To all my friends in Japan and all my friends at Yamaha,

I want to extend my deepest sympathy to all for the ongoing tragedy you are experiencing from the earthquake and Tsunami.

Your courage has inspired me and I'm sure the rest of the world in the face of such great adversity. This courage that you display does not surprise me.
I've had the pleasure and the honor of playing my music in Japan many times, about 30 or more trips. Every time I've been in your country the people have
been kind, thoughtful, sensitive, hard working and very courageous. I know you will get through these very hard challenges that are in front of you. Your
strength is always an inspiration to me, to my friends in the United States and to the rest of the world.

大地震と津波によってもたらされた、今も皆様が直面されている全ての惨事に、私から心からのお悔やみを送りたいと思います。
皆さんの勇気に私は、いや、私だけでなく同じように逆境に直面している世界中の人々も勇気付けられました。今回皆さんが示された勇気は、私を驚かすものではなりません。と言いますのも、私はこれまでに、30回、いやそれ以上来日し、日本で演奏をすることに、喜びを感じ、光栄に思ってきました。日本に訪れる際、人々はいつも親切で、思いやりがあって、繊細で、勤勉で、そしてとても勇敢でした。私は、あなた方が今直面されているこのとても困難な試練を乗り越えると確信しています。皆さんの力は、いつも私や、私の世界中の友人のインスピレーションであります。
